Lamu

Set in Lamu, the oldest Swahili settlement in East Africa, the film follows British artist Pie Herring as she returns to search for Master Tike, a man she met while living in Lamu in early 2021. Master Tike is known for sitting by his old market stall, feeding raw meat to stray cats. Once selling dried fish, he dedicated his life to caring for the cats after his business closed.

Pie’s painting of Master Tike sparked recognition from locals, who shared stories of his generosity and compassion. In a poignant moment, Master Tike grants Pie the honour of framing the painting with wood from his former stall, deepening their connection.
